Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Conquest Estates department at East Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust as a Building Technician working alongside the Estates Operational Team to support the day to day operational maintenance of the ESHT estate. We are looking to recruit someone who can excel in providing an organised and highly efficient service, a person who can be innovative in their thinking and have the ability to make decisions for themselves and someone who can develop and support the service improvements of the department ensuring that we are fit for the future.

This position involves working a five day week (Mon-Fri) covering the core hours of 07.00 to 15.30 on week one and 08.30 to 17.00 on week two. You will then alternate between these two shifts each week.

As we are a large acute care trust, we can offer learning and development opportunities to help you in your career development. As well as relevant regular ongoing training to keep your current skills and knowledge up to date, it can also include access to the trusts apprenticeship scheme where you will have the opportunity to undertake further enhanced training, for example NVQ and HNC courses.

Main duties of the job

The main duties of this role include:

  • Undertake minor repair works and general carpentry & Joinery maintenance activities as directed by the supervisors.
  • Must be able to efficiently diagnose and repair faults in the building structure, including roof work, fabric and finishes.
  • Carry out Planned Preventative Maintenance tasks including but not limited to: fire doors, external doors, windows, flooring, suspended ceilings, locks and locking mechanisms, signage and glazing.
  • Erecting of access equipment as required with appropriate training and competency.
  • Comply with the Trusts health and Safety policy, procedures and working practices.
  • Abide by all infection prevention and control procedures.
  • Undertake training where necessary to improve your skills, learn new techniques or to ensure compliance with regulations or procedures.
  • Adhere to the Estates Department dress code and wearing the supplied uniform at all times when on Trust business.
  • Must be prepared to work outside of normal working hours as and when required, so as to meet the demands of the service.
  • Must be conversant and qualified in the use and maintenance of relevant hand power tools and workshop equipment.
  • Carry an Estates communication device (radio, pager, mobile phone) at all times whilst on duty.
