Band 8a Clinical Lead / Macmillan Speech and Language Therapist - Advanced Practitioner for ENT/ Oncology

This is part of a job share post; 15 hours per week

Due to retirement of the existing job share post-holder a rare and exciting opportunity has arisen within East Sussex to join the integrated acute and community Speech and Language Therapy service. The East Sussex Speech and Language Therapy service is an award winning service, commended for its forward thinking and passion to create new and exciting innovations to improve patient care and safety. The SLT service is managed and professionally led by a practicing consultant SLT.

We can offer you protected time for your CPD with clinical forums, regular clinical supervision, action learning supervision, support to attend relevant CENs and external training opportunities.

You will be joining a friendly and enthusiastic team of acute and community SLTs who work seamlessly to provide pathways of care to the local adult population, in line with organisational and Divisional objectives.

We are proactive in research and service development and staff are encouraged to attend postgraduate courses/ RCSLT CENs. There is also a comprehensive in-service education programme within Therapy Services. We have close links with the local School of Healthcare Professions at the University of Canterbury and Brighton and other universities Temporary accommodation may be available and there are good social facilities within the Trust.

Main duties of the job

We are looking for a dynamic and committed Advanced Care Practitioner with highly specialist skills in the management of voice and cancer pathways including instrumental assessment. This is a part time role as a job share partner to our existing 0.6 wte ACP. We are looking for a therapist with the drive and passion to develop this service and create opportunities to expand the service within ENT and oncology and to lead the team through these exciting transformations. We have excellent relationships with our ENT colleagues who are keen to explore new ways of working together.

You will need to have a strong clinical background in voice and oncology and experience of managing service changes, supporting staff and evaluating outcomes.

  • HCPC Registered Speech and Language Therapist
  • Degree/Post Graduate Diploma in Speech and Language Therapy
  • Training or experience in management/clinical leadership
  • Evidence of Advanced Clinical skills
  • Completion of specialist post graduate short courses
  • Post graduate advanced dysphagia training including: Tracheostomy management, speaking valves, fibreoptic endoscopic evaluation of swallowing disorders

Desirable

  • Advanced Clinical Practice qualification, level 7 or eportfolio evidence
  • Higher level qualification in Leadership and Management
  • completion of competency frameworks in tracheostomy and ventilator dependent patient, videofluoroscopy, above cuff vocalisation, secretion management, voice therapyvoice
  • Counselling training, advanced communication skills

Experience

  • Post graduate experience with evidence of holding a senior role within the relevant clinical environment
