Job summary

We are looking for 3 motivated and enthusiastic individuals to join our growing and evolving service in delivering a high quality, evidence-based approach in response to and management of the needs of children identified with a developmental or behavioural concern.

The team and service is currently growing to meet local demand and in line with service and skill development plans. Neurodevelopmental Specialist Nurses have opportunities to be autonomous practitioners whilst developing skills and services to support the Nurse Team element of The Child Development Service that it is currently commissioned to provide. This includes undertaking specific screening assessments (ADI) and producing reports, identifying need and providing support for families in understanding the diagnostic process, reviewing progress and offering advice and signposting for behavioural support.

Main duties of the job

The individuals will be required to contribute to the role of a team covering a large geographical area, delivering elements of our Community Paediatric Service, which may involve working from different locations within the county and area of service provision.

The successful applicant will work as part of a cross county, multidisciplinary team, currently known as Community Paediatrics, (formerly known as The Scott unit) assessing and supporting children and their families aged 0-19 through referral pathway. Children would be undergoing assessment process for neurodisability or additional needs and related diagnoses.

Band 6 nurses are also actively involved in a Specialist Paediatric Sleep service for children with additional needs and will undertake shared responsibility for reviews of children under Paediatrician caseload and contributing to the Nurse Transformation project to align services and enhance the patient experience as an outcome.

Potential applicants would have a solid knowledge of child development and deviations to the normally developing child and be motivated and interested in supporting families to achieve the best potential for their child. Ideally a knowledge of neurological complex needs (ASD, Downs Syndrome, PMLD, ADHD) would be an advantage, although training will be offered in areas where need is identified.
