We are seeking a competent, committed chemotherapy/Oncology nurse to become the Matron of The Pevensey Day Unit. This is a haematology/oncology Unit that specialises in the delivery of a quality service to patients with malignant and non-malignant blood disorders which provides treatments to Haematology Oncology patients. The day area has 18 chair/bed spaces caring predominately for patients receiving Haematology and Oncology treatments and is currently open from 0800 -1800 /0900 - 19.00 Monday to Friday. The Unit uses the Chemocare electronic prescribing system and has implemented an electronic diary system of booking patient appointments.

You will need to provide strong leadership, possess excellent communication skills and be able to develop and support staff with clinical and professional expertise. You will also be expected to function effectively under pressure without compromising standards of care and professionalism.

Main duties of the job

You must be a 1st level Registered Nurse with at least two years Band 6 Sister /Charge Nurse experience in an acute hospital setting. You should have at least two years' experience including, administration of chemotherapy whilst utilising good organisational skills, experience in teaching, supervision and assessment. Applicants will be expected to have Chemotherapy Competence, and experience within the field, a recognised qualification in Haematology / Oncology is desirable.

Ideally you will be educated to a degree level or be working towards a degree. The ENB 998/mentorship is essential as is an awareness of the current professional, research and practice issues and an understanding of modern human resource management.

You must have advanced clinical knowledge and skills, be willing to participate in research and audit projects and will also be expected to work with a certain amount of autonomy.
