Job summary
We are excited to offer this new post, based between the two acute ESHT hospital sites - Eastbourne DGH and The Conquest, Hastings to provide In-Patient cover as part of the NG19 guidance to meet the target of all Patients with Diabetes having a foot screen within 24 hours of admission.
You will be required to work in our acute hospital sites as possibly our community clinics in the wider community health services. Car driver is therefore essential

Main duties of the job
As part of this role you will work alongside a Band 3 Podiatry Assistant(s) who will do the initial checks & then refer the patients who require further podiatric care to you for review. You will be working alongside our Band 8a At Risk Consultant, band 7 Diabetes Lead & the At-Risk foot team & professionals involved in the holistic care of the patient during their hospital stay & assisting with care plans & further referrals upon discharge
You will work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team alongside orthopaedic & vascular surgeons, endocrinologists, microbiology & orthotics. This includes liaising with GPs, tissue viability, district & practice nurses. There will be opportunities to work in our Foot Protection & Diabetic Foot Clinic MDT's as well for ongoing CPD
There will also be opportunities to train other healthcare professionals & you will be actively involved with student placements as well as delivering educational & screening programmes for patient with an at-risk foot
You will be involved in specialist team meetings as well as providing reports to the Service Manager & to the team in our Clinical Governance Meetings. We offer regular supervision & competency training opportunities for your ongoing professional development, along with improving patient care. Where identified in your appraisal & in line with service development we also have access to post graduate university funding for individual master's modules for professional development

- Educated to a BSc in podiatry under a training programme approved by the College of Podiatry or equivalent.
- Podiatrist registered with the Health Professions Council.
- Further specific post graduate studies in the area of diabetes and wound care to Master's level or equivalent.
Desirable
- Pre-reg MSc in Podiatry under a training programme approved by the College of Podiatry
- Post registration training in Diabetes
- Working towards advanced clinical practitioner status
Experience

- A minimum of five years post registration experience working within both community and hospital settings in area of specialty in diabetes foot care / highly complex wound care / high risk foot
- Experience of acute and chronic highly complex wound care management
