Job summary
This is a very exciting new role for physician associates to work as part of a multi-disciplinary oncology team comprised of clinical and medical oncology consultants, extended radiographers, pharmacists and clinical nurse specialists. As part of an oncology team you will work closely with upper GI, colorectal, respiratory, urology and gynaecology speciality teams.
This is a post that will enable you to explore and extend all your clinical skills as you:
- deliver high quality outpatient oncology care as part of multi-disciplinary team to ensure that our patients get the best care .
- participate in specialty multi-disciplinary meetings in the management of oncology patients.
- work as part of the acute oncology team to proactively identify patients at risk of acute complications and support inpatient teams with the management of patients admitted with acute oncological emergencies.
Main duties of the job
The appointee will be part of a new multidisciplinary oncology team, working closely with specialties to deliver high quality cancer care. The main duties:
- Attendance at the Multidisciplinary Meetings for newly diagnosed patients and those with advanced disease reflecting the whole patient pathway.
- Attendance at radiotherapy discussion meetings and Non-surgical Oncology Group ("NOG") development meetings as well as the face to face clinic activity.
- Delivering high quality outpatient oncology care in a rotating 6 monthly basis in order to gain experience in a wide spectrum of solid malignancies. The appointee will remain for a 6 month period attached to a specific tumour site and then rotate to the next tumour site.
- The post also includes acute oncology and oncology ward attendances both in UHS and EDGH/CQ where the appointee will work alongside the on call oncology and AO teams. This will enable the appointee to keep their clinical skills updated but also enhance their knowledge in oncology.
