Job summary

Cheshire and Wirral Partnership NHS Foundation Trust (CWP) is seeking an experienced and credible senior finance leader to join us on a 12-month fixed-term or secondment basis as Interim Head of Financial Management, Income, Contracting & Costing.

This role provides additional senior leadership capacity and resilience, ensuring continuity of delivery across core financial management responsibilities while supporting an evolving financial and contracting environment shaped by national and system priorities.

The post holder will operate at a senior level within the Trust, working closely with the Director and Deputy Director of Finance, Business & Value, executive colleagues, clinicians and system partners to maintain financial grip, deliver key priorities, and support robust, evidence-based decision-making.

This opportunity will suit a senior NHS finance professional who is comfortable working at pace, bringing clarity, assurance and adaptability in complex settings.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will lead the Financial Management, Income, Contracting & Costing functions and will be accountable for:

  • Providing high-quality, timely and insightful financial information to support executive, Board and system-level decision-making, including monthly management accounts and external reporting.
  • Leading the coordination of the Trust's financial planning processes, including budget setting, forecasting, scenario analysis and longer-term financial modelling.
  • Ensuring statutory and national financial returns are interpreted, prepared and submitted accurately and on time, in line with accounting standards and regulatory requirements.

The ideal candidate

We are looking for a senior NHS finance leader who can quickly establish credibility and provide calm, assured leadership. You will bring:

  • CCAB qualification and significant post-qualification experience in senior NHS finance roles.
  • Strong expertise across financial management, planning, reporting and performance.
  • Experience of leading teams through periods of pressure and change, maintaining grip and delivery.
  • The ability to communicate complex financial issues clearly to a wide range of stakeholders.
  • A pragmatic, delivery-focused mindset, with resilience, integrity and strong values.

Experience within mental health services and/or complex system environments would be advantageous.
