We have available this newly created Consultant Child & Adolescent Psychotherapist post within our Children, Young People & Families care group in Cheshire and Wirral Partnership NHS Foundation Trust (CWP). It has arisen out of a commitment by CWP to develop high quality, evidence-based, equitable, safe, and effective child and adolescent psychotherapy provision within the Trust. It is in keeping with the NHS Long Term Workforce Plan.

This post represents a unique opportunity to develop and provide strategic, professional and clinical leadership in, and coordination and governance of, Child and Adolescent Psychotherapy in CWP. Working with senior operational managers and clinical and strategic directors, the post holder will help shape the strategic direction for both Cheshire and Wirral locality Children and Young People Mental Health Services (CYP MHS).

The post holder will be Association of Child Psychotherapists (ACP) registered and will be expected to attend both Cheshire and Wirral bases to ensure there are strong relationships and oversight.

We will consider doctorate level equivalent qualifications in child and adolescent psychotherapy, eg MProf Child & Adolescent Psychotherapy.

Main duties of the job

We are looking for a highly experienced Child and Adolescent Psychotherapist to join our psychological therapies team.

You will provide strategic leadership and coordination of an accessible, high-quality Child and Adolescent Psychotherapy Service to infants, children, young people and their families and carers, within and across teams. You will lead the CWP Child and Adolescent Psychotherapy Service in line with best clinical and research evidence-based practice, NICE and other professional guidance, Trust priorities and care pathways. This will include contributing to CWP Trust and Regional, as appropriate, strategic planning, and to the implementation of the NHS Long Term Plan locally, in close collaboration with the Chief Psychological Professions Officer, to develop an equitable and accessible Child and Adolescent Psychotherapy Service for CWP.

You will contribute to the delivery of high quality psychologically informed practices working closely with the local CYPMHS. You will be offering assessments and therapeutic interventions to clients with severe and complex mental health problems. The role is dynamic and will require you to attend multidisciplinary meetings and to offer supervision, consultation and training within the service. You will have responsibility for ensuring appropriate supervision and clinical placements are provided for Trainee Child and Adolescent Psychotherapists in CWP, working closely with ACP accredited training providers.

  • Postgraduate diploma or Masters degree (pre-clinical training as recognised by Association of Child Psychotherapists)
  • Professional doctoral level qualification in Child and Adolescent Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy
