We are looking for an enthusiastic Clinical Psychologist to join our Wallasey and West Wirral CMHT at an exciting time of development.

Alongside direct therapeutic work with individuals and their families, you would also provide consultation and support to our MDT colleagues and have the opportunity to contribute to the National CMHT Transformation Programme. An interest in research and audit is encouraged and supported.

You would be joining a friendly and supportive community mental health team with a focus on a recovery model and trauma-informed care and where the role of Clinical Psychology is highly valued. As part of a team of experienced psychologists with a focus on continuing personal development peer support. Specialist supervision will be provided for the post and there will be opportunities for the development of clinical skills, including training in therapies including EMDR, and/or other therapy modalities deemed relevant. We have good links with the three training courses in the North West and offer clinical placements.

The post is offered at Band 8a for those with 1+ years post-qualification experience. We also encourage newly qualified Clinical Psychologists, or those qualifying later in 2024 to apply and can offer a Band 7 preceptorship moving up to 8a after demonstration of an appropriate level of skills and experience. Part-time hours will also be considered.

Main duties of the job

The post-holder will join a supportive and friendly psychology team which includes senior Clinical Psychologists across the Trust and the Head of Clinical Service and Service Managers for the Wirral area. They will also work closely with the other members of the CMHT leadership team, to develop strong working relationships and effective care pathways. Alongside these leadership roles, they will carry a clinical caseload within the Wirral CMHTs, working both directly and indirectly with service users.

We are keen to recruit someone with experience, specialist knowledge and skills of working with severe and enduring mental health difficulties such as complex trauma, interpersonal difficulties, and self-harm. We also value leadership skills and the ability to develop innovative practice and play a lead role in service development. We are looking for someone who can contribute at a senior level to the vision for the service, working closely with colleagues in different parts of the system, including primary care and the third sector.

The post is funded for 5 days but there are opportunities for part-time and flexible working. We prioritise investment in staff training and development as well as staff wellbeing.

Essential

  • Post-graduate doctoral level training in clinical psychology (or its equivalent for those trained prior to 1996)
  • HCPC registration

Desirable

  • Post-doctoral training or qualification in one or more additional specialised areas of psychological practice relevant to the speciality; in particular psychotherapeutic approaches such as Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT), dialectical behaviour therapy (DBT), EMDR, Cognitive Behavioural therapy (CBT), Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT), cognitive analytic therapy (CAT) or Mentalisation Based Therapy (MBT).
  • Supervision qualification
