Job summary

Would you like to make a difference to the health of vulnerable adults and young people? Would you like a non-traditional fitness role working as part of a clinical health care team? Do you have an interest in supporting people to improve mental health as well as physical fitness? Would you like to support people with learning disabilities?

We have an exciting opportunity for a Fitness Instructor to join our Fitness and Wellbeing team on a temporary contract until January 2024, due to a staff secondment. The post is based at the Old Chapel Gym on the Countess of Chester Health Park site and is a part time Band 3 post (10.5 hours a week, 0.28WTE) over 2 days. The proposed work pattern is Thursdays and Fridays 10am - 3.15pm. There is scope for negotiation of working days for the right applicant. There is also scope for some extra hours per week , on a flexible basis, to support our staff membership program,

The Fitness and Wellbeing Team provides a gym service, exercise sessions and health promotion to our service users who are in hospital, within the following areas: Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (Ancora House), Adult Mental Health (Bowmere Hospital) and Learning Disabilities (Eastway inpatient service).

This post is fixed term until January 2024 due to funding.

Main duties of the job

You will work as part of the Fitness and Wellbeing team in managing referrals, providing induction, developing individualised programs and contributing to the day to day running of the gym.

We are looking for a highly motivated, creative and organised team player with appropriate experience to at least Level 2 certificate (REPS recognised). You will be supported by the Lead Occupational Therapist and Lead Fitness Instructors. You will be working within a busy hospital environment and be able to communicate confidently with clinical staff and adapt sessions as required to be realistic with our changing service user population.

It would be desirable for applicants to have had experience in care, knowledge of mental health conditions or learning disabilities, and an understanding of risk assessment related to these areas.

You will be passionate about improving the physical health and wellbeing of vulnerable young people and adults and be able to motivate others using a collaborative and supportive approach.

The Old Chapel Gym is a unique listed building, which has been converted into a purpose built space with a full range of cardio and strength and resistance equipment.
