Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 5 Occupational Therapist to work within our acute mental health service. Mulberry ward in Macclesfield is a newly modernised 26 bed mixed gender acute mental health ward. There is a small supportive Occupational Therapy team consisting of qualified OT staff and Technical Instructors. We have a developing MDT which includes nursing staff, advanced nurse practitioner, medical staff, psychologists, physiotherapist and therapy assistant.
The role will involve working closely with the whole MDT to assess service users' occupational functioning and to support them in achieving their goals towards safe and timely discharge. There will be access to regular and supportive Occupational Therapy supervision in addition to support from other members of the MDT. We have a clear and well established preceptorship package which includes increased supervision and support, and offer all staff opportunities for training and development.
The post holder will need at times to be able to work independently and to prioritise their own work load as well as being an integral part of the Occupational Therapy and wider team. They will be enthusiastic about working in this setting and have a passion for supporting individuals experiencing mental health difficulties. Main duties of the job
- Using the Model of Human Occupation to assess skills and deficits from both a functional and cognitive perspective
- Undertaking home visits to support positive and safe discharge planning
- Providing a range of therapeutic activities to support a positive recovery journey, promote functional opportunities and provide positive quality of life experiences
- Working with the MDT to provide a positive inpatient experience and support a positive discharge process.
