Job summary
We are looking for an individual who would like to develop their skills and knowledge within our Blood Sciences Central Services Department at CHFT, with particular focus on the Referrals service. This position is a key role within Central Services and will assist the Central Services Manager with the management of the department, in particular the Referrals section, and deputising when necessary. The individual will benefit if they have extensive experience and are familiar with the requirements of a busy Pathology Central Reception, however full training will be available. This position requires an efficient and flexible individual who strives to provide a high-quality service at all times, is open to change and improvements, and be a valuable member of the team.
The succcessful candidate will be required to work Monday to Friday during routine working hours. There is some flexibility to the start time however there is a requirement for them to be on-site during the busier period of the service.
Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will demonstrate good knowledge and understanding of Blood Sciences tests, sample stability and packaging requirements for Biological specimens that are transported to external hospitals for analysis. This individual may be required to support the Stores department, ordering and maintaining sufficient pathology stock and supplies for the hospital and wider community services.

- delivering training for new staff members, including competency assessments.
- being an effective leader in an ever-changing environment.
- providing statistical information from the LIMS system
- supporting the department in ensuring data quality,
- monitoring samples referral to other laboratories
- over-seeing the operation of the Referrals service.
- monitoring the Referrals emails
- chasing outstanding results.
- reporting results
- liaising with both users within the Trust and outside as well as external service providers.
- monitoring turnaround times
- invoicing tasks
- monitoring changes to processes and updating documentation.
- investigating incidents
- this list is not exhaustive, and the role will continuously develop.
