Job summary

Ward 10 has the opportunity for a leader to join our team on a permanent basis.

We are the general elective surgical ward for the Calderdale and Huddersfield trust.

With 20 beds, we care for a range of surgical specialities, including; Colorectal, Upper GI, Bariatric, Breasts and Urology, as well as caring for general surgical patients. We are a 24/7 service which offers a variety of shift patterns.

We are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic leader to join our friendly and proactive nursing team. We are a hard working department with a strong sense of teamwork, care and compassion.

The successful candidate will work alongside the leadership team to, provide positive leadership, quality assurance, innovative and embrace change.

Main duties of the job

Main Tasks

To work within the NMC code of professional practice, and within policies, procedures and guidelines of Calderdale & Huddersfield NHS Trust.

To ensure that high standards of nursing care are given and maintained and act when standards are not being maintained.

Take charge and co ordinate post op admissions, direct admissions, the transfer and discharges of patients.

To assist staff to safely carry out and ensure compulsory training is completed, i.e. venepuncture and phlebotomy also ECG training as well as medical devices training and others

To assist the managers with day to day running of the ward

To assist the managers in leading and managing the ward and workforce

To assist managers with probationary management, incident investigations, roster management , assessing students and supporting new starters, appraisals and audits

Service improvements and initiatives

Recognising changes in patients conditions, which require intervention of others and to escalate appropriately

Clearly represent the patients point of view to others, including promoting and protecting the interest and dignity of patients

Ensure own practice is evidence based, and contribute to the development of nursing practice in own area

About us

We employ more than 6,500 staffwho deliver compassionate care from our two main hospitals,Calderdale Royal Hospital and Huddersfield Royal Infirmary as well as in community sites, healthcentres and in patients' homes. We also are incredibly proud to have almost 150 volunteers here at CHFT.

Identify own training needs within ESR and keep these up to date

Answering patients concerns and complaints in a sensitive manner

Sickness management and return to work interviews

Train the trainer role
