Job summary

We have a vacancy for an enthusiastic, self motivated Scientific Officer in Quality Management within CHFT's Pathology Department, to work closely with the Pathology Quality Manager. The Pathology Department is across two hospital sites (Huddersfield Royal Infirmary and Calderdale Royal Hospital) and all areas of the pathology service are currently UKAS accredited.

We are looking for a qualified HCPC Biomedical Scientist who will be a key member of the Quality team within CHFT, has previous Pathology quality experience and has participated in UKAS accreditation.

Main duties of the job

You will have experience of pathology quality management, well developed interpersonal skills, the ability to communicate with other members of the team and be registered with HCPC as a Biomedical Scientist. The department is committed to the training and development of all staff.

The successful candidate will work closely with the Pathology Quality Manager and Quality team to assist with the daily maintenance of the QMS through, for example, induction training, competency assessment, system auditing and data collection, all used to support the Quality team in the effective functioning and continual improvement of the QMS to ensure an effective delivery for the consolidation and harmonisation of quality across all the Pathology disciplines.

  • IBMS Specialist postgraduate portfolio or equivalent experience
  • Laboratory CAPA training
  • Laboratory audit training

  • Experience of UKAS assessments (as an auditee and close out of nonconformities)
  • Awareness of the Health and Safety at Work Act and the role of the HSE
  • Experience of working within the Pathology CHFT Quality Management system o Auditing- Technical scope and Quality Management System o Document production and review o Training and assessment of competence of staff between band 2 - 5
  • Working knowledge of ISO 15189:2022
  • Experience of training other Biomedical Scientists and support workers
  • Ability to prioritise workload
  • Awareness of metrological traceability and calibration (measurement systems)
