Job summary

The role of the Nursing Associate is to work with the multi professional team, supporting the DIstrict nurse to assess, plan, organise and deliver clinical care in line with service and patient needs.

The Nursing Associate has a breadth of knowledge across the lifespan and across all fields of nursing, providing holistic and person-centred care and support for people of all agesand in a variety of settings including patients own homes and care homes. The nursing associateworks independently under the leadership of registered nurses and the District nurse working within the sphere ofnursing care and within all aspects of the nursing process (Health Education England 2018).Nursing associates are equipped with the knowledge, understanding, skills, attitudes and behaviours relevant to employment as a nursing associate and will work to a nationally recognisedNursing and Midwifery Councils code of conduct (NMC) and must meet the NMC standards of proficiency

QUALIFICATIONS / TRAINING

Essential

  • Nursing Associate Foundation Degree from an approved nursing associate programme
  • Registered Nurse Associate on the NMC register
  • GCSE Grade A-C in Maths & English or skills level 2 Maths & English or equivalent
  • Evidence of continuing professional development

Desirable

  • Additional post- registration qualification relevant to field of practice
  • Have completed training or study in areas relevant to the role applied for or be willing to undertake

KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE & EXPERTISE

Essential

  • Relevant experience in the field of area applied for
  • Relevant experience of working with patients and families from a range of cultures and backgrounds
  • Relevant experience of working self-directed or as part of a team
  • Understanding the scope of the nursing associate role in the context of the multidisciplinary team and the organisation, and how the role will contribute to service development
  • Understands and acts in line with NMC professional standards for practice contained within the Code
  • Relevant knowledge related to best practice guidance for care of patients and their families.
  • Ability to communicate with members of the public and health and care providers
  • Knowledge of when to seek advice and escalate to the appropriate professional for expert help and advice
  • Understands the requirements for NMC professional revalidation
  • Ability to demonstrate knowledge of safeguarding procedures and policies for adults and children
