Locum Consultant in Urgent & Emergency Medicine

Job summary

The Trusts is investing in its Emergency Medicine department and is recruiting to Locum consultant posts. These are new posts to support the senior delivery of Emergency Care and the development of the service within Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust with a view to developing the following services and delivering a consultant delivered night shifts.

o Frailty

o Musculoskeletal services

o Ultrasound

o SDEC

o Paediatric Emergency Medicine

In 2018, the Department of Health and Social Care approved investment of £196.5 million to support reconfiguration of hospital services across Calderdale & Huddersfield which includes development of a purpose-built Emergency Department at Huddersfield as well as an Urgent & Emergency Care Centre at Calderdale.

Main duties of the job

o Comply with the Emergency Departments and Trust's policies, and to maintain their skills and knowledge through CPD.

o Participate in the day-to-day training and supervision of junior medical staff and with all other training/teaching activities facilitated by the department.

o To cover his/her colleagues for unpredicted short term absence.

o Expect to be called to the department when a Major Incident is declared.

o To participate in the development of emergency treatment protocols.

o Take an active role in clinical audit and the clinical governance process

o To take an active role in the appraisal process

o Provide professional supervision and encourage the development of all Doctors and ACPs within the Emergency Department.

o Contribute the provision of reports for the Coroner, Police Statements and for Complaints management adhering to time frames.

o Will ensure their own practice is up to date: this will include taking responsibility for own clinical professional development and participation in the Trust appraisal system.
