Sister/Charge Nurse Paediatric Emergency Department

Job summary

The role of the band 6 Paediatric Nurse is to support, contribute to the leadership and the management of the Paediatric Unit within the Emergency Department.

The band 6 Paediatric Nurse will support the Senior Nursing Team in the development, monitoring and implementation of high quality, evidence-based clinical care to ensure that continuity of service provision and standards are maintained and improved.

To communicate effectively with the ED/Paediatric team, Clinical teams, Matrons, and the wider Multidisciplinary Team (MDT).

Paediatric Emergency Medicine experience is required with evidence of professional development to ensure competence in line with the RCN's competency framework for Emergency Nursing.

Main duties of the job

Working within emergency departments covering two sites, current attendances reflective of over 500 patients daily.

Daily management of the paediatric department working simultaneously with the Nurse in Charge and also the Paediatric assessment unit and inpatient ward.

Ensuring safe and effective care provided to patients and their families provided in a timely manner.
