Looking for your next big career move? CHFT Foundation Trust is offering an exciting 18-month opportunity for a dynamic Ophthalmology Service Manager to lead and shape outstanding patient care.
The post holder will provide leadership and day to day management focus for eye clinic services at Calderdale Royal and Acre Mills Out-patients.Along with three eye clinic nurse sisters you will be responsible for the Ophthalmic nursing workforce and the development of nursing clinical activity within the department.The post holder will be expected to support service improvement and change, developing modern, safe and patient centered services across a range of Ophthalmic sub-specialties in line with national performance targets and Trust initiatives and policies.
Main duties of the job
Responsible for the day to day management of Ophthalmology out-patient services provided by clinical staff and Ophthalmic nursing provision at an operational level.Provide positive leadership within the Ophthalmic nursing team, which is flexible and responds to change.Development of a team, which is motivated and empowered to contribute to the development and delivery of Ophthalmic services.
Development of a team where potential is recognised and development of skills and knowledge are encouraged in line with service and individual needs.Presence of an enthusiastic dynamic and motivated role model, prompting delivery of best clinical practice providing safe clinical advice as required.Understanding of operational pressures, waiting list targets, referral to treatment pathways, managing change and service improvement along with budgetary controls.Improvement and maintenance of patient quality and delivery of service ensuring a focus to improve patient experience.

Ensuring that clinical teams demonstrate best practice and guidelines are available and adhered to within the department.To work within Trust policy and procedure guidelines and ensure that these are adhered to by the team.
Provide high quality patient focused services.Participate in and support the implementation of service improvement and transformation projects within Ophthalmic services, nursing care and extended roles.Contribute proactively to directorate planning for the development of alternatives for service provision.To provide a cost effective, efficient and quality service within agreed resources.To ensure that the Ophthalmology workforce is kept informed of all relevant issues relating to the delivery of the service.Support the department in delivering performance operational aims by reviewing and advancing nursing practice where appropriate.To develop effective communication systems for staff, patients and carers.

- Degree level or equivalent qualification in nursing and equivalent level of experience
- Higher education training continued Professional Development within Nursing profession
Desirable
- Recognised management Qualification
- Qualification in Ophthalmic nursing extended roles
- Evidence of achievement in management of financial targets and budgetary management; business planning and waiting list management
KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE & EXPERTISE

- Experience in a senior role involved with patient care and staff management within the NHS
- Evidence of excellence, innovation, and achievement in management practice
- Experience in dealing with Senior Medical/Nursing staff
- Budgetary Management skills
- Experience of dealing with and responding to complaints and concerns
- In depth experience of all aspects of staff management
- Recruitment & selection training and experience
- Up to date professional knowledge, PDR training and experience
