Job summary

Have you considered working in the NHS within the outpatient setting? Are you interested in looking at the patient experience through their eyes with care and compassion? Do you have experience of or are interested in Orthopaedics? Do you want to work daytime/ evening hours with no nights.

We are seeking enthusiastic, polite, confident, resilient and organised individuals to join the Orthopaedic Outpatient Service as Staff Nurses. You will be expected to have good interpersonal and communication skills to deal with thehigh numberof patients that visit Orthopaedic outpatients on a daily basis.

Main duties of the job

You will be expected to record any care or intervention you provide as delegated by the OPD Sister/ Nurse in Charge. The ability to work at pace, following advice and instruction outlined by medical and/ or senior nursing staff is essential. You will be expected to be able to work alone or as part of a team within your NMC Code of Practice.

Job description

Job responsibilities

Whilst putting the patient first; the successful candidates will undertake a range of clinical duties as delegated by the OPD Sister or Staff Nurse in Charge.

You will be expected to support outpatients, with a focus on working in clinics to support patients during their outpatient journey. A range of duties from welcoming patient to clinic and explaining who they will see; performing any base line observations requested by the clinician, being a chaperone and good listener, carrying out prescribed treatments, whilst ensuring that the clinic starts and finishes on time. You will be expected to be competent with using computers because outpatient services use Electronic Patient Records (EPR). An interest in sharing your knowledge is also important as the departments have apprentices, trainee nurse associates and students making up the team

Previous experience in an acute hospital setting / orthopaedics / outpatients is an advantage.There is the expectation that you will be expected to work across the sites of Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust across a range of clinics and in the treatment and plaster rooms.

QUALIFICATIONS / TRAINING

Essential

  • NMC Registered Nurse in relevant field of practice (or within 6 months of completing a validated BSc or MSc course, resulting in NMC registration)
  • Practice Assessor/Practice Supervisor qualification or willingness to complete

Desirable

  • Additional post-registration qualification relevant to field of practice
  • Evidence of continuing professional development
  • Role Specific Training relevant to specialty of the post
  • Teaching Qualification
  • Leadership Qualification

KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE & EXPERTISE

Essential

  • Knowledge and skill to plan, deliver, and evaluate high quality, evidence-based nursing care to a group of patients within the speciality of the post
  • Experience of working with patients, and those that matter to them, from a range of diverse cultures and backgrounds
  • Experience of working as part of a team, with the ability to prioritise own workload.
  • Knowledge and skill in infection prevention and control principles and procedures
  • Knowledge and skill in safeguarding principles and procedures
  • IT literacy and ability to use NHS systems
  • Competence in speciality or role specific extended skills required of the post or willingness to undertake necessary training.
