Job summary

The Department of Trauma & Orthopaedics seeks to appoint a Consultant in Trauma & Orthopaedics with a Special Interest in lower limb arthroplasty and revision hip surgery, to bring us to a complement of eighteen whole time equivalent surgeons and two less than full time (20 Consultants total). This is a replacement post for retirement and is based upon the firm commitment of the Trust to achieve excellence and quality in the provision of both elective and emergency Orthopaedic surgery, with a particular focus on lower limb arthroplasty and revision and complex hip surgery. Any candidate, however, who can do revision knee surgery would also be welcome to apply. It is a full time post, and is based on a 10 PA contract with a number of flexible sessions. The candidate must be able to undertake routine lower limb arthroplasty work but also have fellowship training in revision arthroplasty surgery and be able to work in a team that provides this complex work some of which is undertaken as dual consultant operating.

Qualifications

Essential

  • FRCS or equivalent
  • You must be on the specialist register for Trauma & Orthopaedics or within 6 months of being admitted to the register for trainees, if currently in a training programme in the UK. In accordance with the regulations, all other categories of Doctors must be on the GMC specialist register to be considered for a consultant appointment by the Advisory Appointments Committee
  • Applicants must be Registered with the General Medical Council and hold a Licence to Practise

Desirable

  • Relevant higher degree(MD/PhD)

Experience and Achievements

Essential

  • Must be able to demonstrate a high level of clinical experience and competence in all aspects of Elective and Trauma surgery
  • Fellowship training in lower limb revision / complex hip arthroplasty
  • A developed or developing sub-speciality interest in revision hip arthroplasty surgery

Desirable

  • Experience in revision knee surgery desirable but not essential as main focus is for hip revision
  • Understanding current issues within T&O and the future direction of the specialty
  • Attendance at a recognised management course
  • Understanding current issues within the wider NHS
  • Shows ability to work with and lead others across professions
