Job summary

We are looking to appoint an enthusiastic, flexible and self motivated Health Care Profession Council registered Podiatrist who can demonstrate evidence of continued postgraduate training to join our busy Podiatry team.

We are a community based team, working in a variety of settings across the Calderdale region from Todmorden, Halifax, Brighouse and surrounding areas within health centres and patients homes/care settings.

Main duties of the job

Good assessment, diagnostic and effective communication skills are essential along with the ability to work flexibly on your own initiative as well as part of a team.

You will provide a range of treatments in a variety of settings including patient's homes and Podiatry clinics.

You must be IT literate (email, internet), and be able to document assessment and treatment findings within an electronic record.

Due to the community nature of the post the applicant should have a valid driving license and access to a vehicle which should be appropriately insured for business use.

To work within the Podiatry Service, applying effective clinical interventions in line with current evidence base.

To manage autonomously, a clinical workload of patients/clients, assessing, treating and discharging patients and maintaining clinical records, referring queries to senior staff.

To have podiatry assessment and treatment skills in the areas listed but not limited to:

Diabetic patients

Patients with long-term foot conditions

Assessment of new patients

Enabling patients to undertake self-care

Nail surgery

Patients with foot function problems

Discharge planning

To communicate effectively using non-verbal, verbal, written and electronic means.

To liaise and develop rapport with patients/clients, carers, colleagues, and where appropriate, outside agencies under guidance of a senior therapist.

To act, within the service, as a resource and provide advice for other professionals and colleagues about the assessment, treatment, management and discharge of patients/clients with support from senior staff.

To work alongside other professionals to ensure effective pathways of care are followed.

To make appropriate referrals to other agencies/practitioners.

To deliver programmes of assessment, treatment and discharge for patients/clients with support from senior staff.

To manage and prioritise own clinical workload as appropriate, working efficiently to manage professional time and delegate according to the training and competency levels of other team members to ensure the effective delivery of the service.

To participate in clinical supervision.

To ensure a high standard of patient care is provided including implementing clinical standards relevant to the work undertaken.

To participate in MDT meetings as appropriate.

Essential

  • Ability to undertake assessment and formulate treatment/management programmes with patients/clients, including discharge of patients, acting as an autonomous practitioner.
  • NHS experience
  • Good Clinical reasoning skills
  • Ability to maintain legible and accurate records
  • Previous experience working at Band 5 level

Desirable

  • Critical Appraisal Skills

  • Member of Professional Body
