Job summary

This is a full-time post for a Locum Consultant Cardiologist with sub-specialty interest in heart failure and is designed to keep up with the increasing demands on our local service, but also an exciting opportunity to enhance and further strengthen Cardiology services at CHFT. The successful applicant will join 2 existing Consultant colleagues in delivering our heart failure service and to develop other innovative pathways/ services for our patients. A complementary sub-specialist interest in cardiac imaging is encouraged; but sub-specialty interest in cardiac device implantation is also welcome. Applicants will be required to have a wide range of experience in general cardiology and will join 10 full time and one part-time cardiology consultants in the Trust.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be expected to work with colleagues at both sites as required to support the service. The post holder will contribute to the current 1:9 Consultant of the week model for delivering cardiology inpatient care at CRH. There will also be a commitment to a 1:9 cardiology on call service/ weekend rota across the Trust. There is no commitment to general medicine on call.

This is a Full-Time post providing 10 Programmed Activities (PAs), but applicants wishing to work part-time are also encouraged to apply and job plans will be adjusted accordingly, and by negotiation with appointees. Applicants must be on the General Medical Council Specialist Register or within six months of being admitted to the Register for trainees if in a training programme within the UK. In accordance with the regulations, all other categories of doctors must be on the GMC Specialist Register to be considered for a consultant appointment by the Advisory Appointments Committee.   • MRCP or equivalent
  • Specialist registration for Cardiology is preferred (or within 6 months of being admitted to the register for trainees, if currently in a training programme in the UK) but consideration will be given to applicants with relevant consultant level experience or trainees in a UK training scheme who are within 6 months of attaining specialist registration.
