We are looking to appoint an innovative and high performing Consultant Ophthalmologist specialising in Vitreo-retina, providing sub-specialty out-patient clinics, surgery and on calls for the VR services as well as providing out patient clinics and surgery/treatments in their specified other sub-speciality interest.
The Vitreo-retinal service continues to transform and initiate new models and pathways of care to meet the needs of the local population by implementing best practice.
This is an excellent opportunity to join a dynamic and forward thinking eye care service team comprising 16 Consultants, 6 Specialty and Trust Grade Doctors, 4 Specialty trainees, 2 Nurse Practitioners, 10 Orthoptists, 4 Optometrists, 2ACPs and a substantial team of Ophthalmic Nurses, technicians and healthcare assistants.
The department also benefits from our Eye Clinic Liaison Officer and 5 Ophthalmology Failsafe Co-ordinators and 5 Ophthalmology Schedulers/Pathway Co-Ordinators along with a supportive senior management team within the Head and Neck Directorate.
Main duties of the job
To provide specialist Consultant Led Vitreo-retinal and sub - speciality clinics: - new and follow-up emergency, routine, post-ops and laser clinics. Dedicated elective/acute theatre for VR procedures.
To provide teaching and education to trainees, Trust doctors, Optometrists, Orthoptists, Nurse practitioners to enhance future models of care and expansion within the specialty.
Opportunity to work with service leads to conduct service improvement, transformation and research.
Join the Consultant non-resident on-call Vitreo-retinal rota - this will be a 1:3 provision.
Opportunity to perform cataract surgery depending on experience and sub-speciality interest in this area.
About us
CHFT has 2 main sites, Ophthalmology being based in Acre Mills Out-patients, Huddersfield and Calderdale Royal Hospital, Halifax. Community clinics are also provided at Westwood Park (Bradford) and Todmorden (Halifax).
The Trust is currently one of the most digitised NHS Trusts in the country having moved to Cerner Millennium Electronic Patient Records (EPR) in 2017. This makes us currently one of the most paper-light and digitised Ophthalmology Departments in the country including the use of Medisoft by all clinical teams, and our planned/on-going work will make us a national leader in this area. We have a go live date to upgrade the Medisoft system to the new and improve Medisight software in October 2023.

The Department of Health and Social Care has awarded capital funding to invest in local health services at both Calderdale Royal Hospital and Huddersfield Royal Infirmary. - MRCOphth or equivalent
- All applicants must have Specialist registration for Ophthalmology (or within 6 months of being admitted to the register for trainees, if currently in a training programme in the UK) but consideration will be given to applicants with relevant consultant level experience or trainees in a UK training scheme who are within 6 months of attaining specialist registration.
