Job summary
We are looking for highly motivated and enthusiastic nurse/operating department practitioner to join our friendly and pro-active operating theatre team. This role would be suitable for an experienced nurse with an interest in theatres or qualified operating department practitioner.
The post holder will be responsible for the provision of a high quality patient focused service, based on assessment of patient needs within designated speciality/ specialties. To lead the theatre team and provide effective and efficient services to clinicians, deputise for Clinical Operations Manager as required. The qualified practitioner will provide leadership within the theatre department on a 5 day service.
Main duties of the job
- Delegate work to match capabilities and workload of team members
- Establish and maintain effective communication within multi-disciplinary team including contributing to effective communication concerning the specialism.
- Lead their team towards local, divisional and Trust objectives.
- Ensure an appropriate skill mix when planning rotas, delegating tasks, etc.
- Assist Clinical Operations Manager and Matron to manage human and other resources effectively within budget allocation.
- Supervise and deploy staff where and when necessary to meet the continuing needs of the service.
- Ensure theatre sessions run smoothly communicating with appropriate team members to ensure a positive patient experience. (Including ward, admissions, bed team and theatres)

- Ensure clinical learning environment is conducive for effective learning, undertake all such reasonable other duties as may be required as part of the role.
- Attend and participate in meetings as required including providing feedback and disseminating information as appropriate.
- Utilise information systems to plan and forecast future needs and ensure appropriate action.
- Assist Clinical Operations Manager to monitor sickness, absence and competence issues and implement Trust policies.
- Ensure systems are in place for risk assessment and minimisation, including promoting a no blame culture in order that incidents and near misses are reported.
- To manage complaints at departmental level, including supporting junior staff to manage verbal complaints and refer on when unable to resolve.
- To participate investigation of incidents / complaints as required.
- Be proactive in the development of practice/ services in the clinical area, through business planning process / service development, in conjunction with the Theatre manager and Matron.
