An exciting Job opportunity has arisen for a well-motivated, flexible and innovative individual working across the specialism of Hematology and Transfusion.
The service serves a population of over 400,000 patients and is based at both the Huddersfield Royal Infirmary and the Calderdale Royal Hospital, where you will be expected to work across both sites.
The department is fully UKAS and MHRA accredited and has HCPC training status.
Main duties of the job

The Hematology department is well equipped with Sysmex XN analysers, SP-10 Slide stainer, together with DI-60 Digital morphology system and the coagulation analysers are Sysmex CS 2500.
The Blood Transfusion service is delivered via the Biorad IH-1000 automated Blood grouping system and operates a state of the art Blood Track System - Haemonetics. Ensuring quality and safety for the collection, processing, storage and administration of human blood components. This system electronically records every stage of the transfusion process improving patient safety.

Participation in the 24/7 rota will be expected following a period of training. - Supervision and training of MLA, associate practitioners, trainee BMS, and BMS staff
- Experience of UKAS accreditation and MHRA guidelines
- Demonstrate a commitment to and participation in continued professional development.
- Willingness to take part in providing out of hours service
- Knowledge and understanding of laboratory accreditation and other quality standards associated with Clinical Haematology & Transfusion laboratories.
- To be able to deal with sensitive data in accordance with departmental and Trust guidelines.
- Demonstrate a sound knowledge base in laboratory practice in Clinical Haematology & Transfusion
- Ability to run, maintain and fault find on laboratory equipment
- Demonstrate a sound knowledge base in laboratory practice in Haematology / Blood Transfusion
- Ability to run, maintain and fault find on laboratory equipment.
- Good IT Skills
- Experience of working as part of a team

- Experience of laboratory and clinical audit
- Experience of leading a team
- Experience of stock control systems
