Job summary

  • To undertake all duties associated with the provision of a modern Isotope Imaging service, providing a high standard of care at all times.

  • To participate in the supervision and training of student radiographers and isotope imaging trainees.

Main duties of the job

  • To perform a wide variety of specialised Isotope imaging procedures and examinations as service needs required by radiology.

  • Able to deal with high pressure demands from service users, ensuring patient care is not compromised.
  • Work as part of a team in Isotope imaging within the Trust, but also autonomously, prioritising and managing own workload.

Our radiology department has maintained its accreditation status now recognised as Quality Standards in Imaging.

HCPC registered Isotope Radiographer Band 6 .

We are seeking to recruit an enthusiastic Radiographer into our Isotope service in CHFT

Our radiology department has ISAS accreditation status

We will consider applications from staff fully experienced in radiology but we will consider your application if you would require further training in any aspects of Isotope which need to include hybrid imaging. The training will involve development of knowledge, skills and competencies in the use of all Isotope equipment as well as recognition and experience in clinical working practices.

Patient doses are supplied to us as a Multi Dose Vial System and as such requires knowledge of handling Isotopes and the drawing up procedures .

The Isotope suite is equipped with a hybrid Siemens Intevo 6 Spect CT scanner and we carry out a wide range of Isotope examinations, such as cardiac, paediatric, endocrinology, orthopaedics, oncology, rheumatology, urology, gastrology, and acute pulmonary embolus.

We are based at Huddersfield Royal but also provide services for Calderdale Royal

Job description

Job responsibilities

  • Provide a full range of clinical examinations performed within the departments, ensuring high standards of clinical practice are maintained and to be responsible for the quality of own work and that of Band 5 trainees and Student Radiographers under supervision where applicable.

  • Plan and undertake all duties required in the provision of the radiographic service within a specialised (modality) working environment.

  • Ensure that high quality images are produced on all ranges of patients, adapting techniques to accommodate the clinical, physical and mental needs of the patient and ensuring patient care at all times.

  • Registered with the Healthcare Professionals Council. Works within the HCPC professional code of conduct and standards of proficiency. Works within the policies, procedures and guidelines set by the Trust. Adheres to departmental protocols.

  • Practice in accordance with the current legislation governing the use of ionising Radiation for Medical and other purposes. Implementing Ionising Radiation (Medical Exposures) Regulations 2017 .

  • Work in accordance with departmental policies and procedures to ensure the safe accumulation and disposal of radioactive waste in accordance with The Environment Agency Regulation

  • Adhere to departmental safety guidelines ensuring patient and staff safety at all times. Perform pre examination patient checks.

  • Able to diffuse potentially aggressive situations involving patients, relatives or carers effectively

  • Able to deal with verbal complaints efficiently and effectively completing all documentation.

  • Communicate effectively with patients in all age ranges and abilities to gain a positive identification as per IR MER 2017 and their co-operation in order to obtain high quality images.

  • Communicate effectively with all grades of staff and clinicians, both within and out with the department, to ensure an efficient service and compliance with IR MER 2017 Regulations.

  • Work with the modality Service/Team Leader to Manage/co-ordinate the day to day workload of the modality area.

  • Prioritise workflow to meet the needs of the patient; liaising effectively with other members of the team, wards, departments and clinical colleagues across the Trust .

  • Be responsible for the accurate completion of all records, including the appropriate section of all care pathways in which they are involved.

  • Utilise clinical skills to recognise and act upon emergency situations, i.e., cardiac arrest, respiratory arrest, adverse reactions to medication.

  • To participate in extended hours service within specialist area.

  • Utilise IT skills to input data onto the Radiology Information System, including patient and examination details, ensuring patient confidentiality. Utilise IT skills in the use of the Electronic Patient Record and the Hospital PACS System.
