Job summary

This is a full-time post, based primarily within the Department of Anaesthetics at both Huddersfield Royal Infirmary and Calderdale Royal Hospital. The post-holders will be expected to work on either site according to the needs of the service. The post offered will provide excellent experience in a District General Hospital setting for doctors who wish to continue pursuing a career in Anaesthetics out with a training rotation. The department has an excellent track record of progression for specialty doctors, including support for development, or entry into training programmes.

It is visualized that the successful appointee will participate in audit, service improvement, and quality initiatives that will support departmental development

There will be an Educational Supervisor allocated to ensure support for professional development and a weekly protected half-day teaching session covering clinical and managerial topics.

Posts are offered on a full-time basis, but candidates who wish to work less than full-time are also encouraged to apply.

Main duties of the job

The appointee will take part in the ICU/anaesthesia on-call rota, either at Calderdale or Huddersfield depending on service requirements and prior discussion with the Clinical Directors.

In addition, the post-holder(s) will provide anaesthesia for elective and acute surgery in-hours with appropriate supervision. Surgical specialties provided by the Trust include ENT, Trauma & Orthopaedics, general, ophthalmic and urological surgery. Some paediatric work is undertaken within these specialties.

  • Peri-operative management of patients and covering ICU & Obstetrics.
  • Provide advanced resuscitation and intra-/ inter-hospital transfer skills for the Trust hospitals.
  • Participate in a resident out of hours (shift) rota
  • Active participation in the Departments Teaching, Audit and Governance programmes.
  • To keep up to date with Trust mandatory training requirements.
  • Undergo annual appraisal & undertake appropriate professional activity commensurate with GMC revalidation requirements.
  • Observe all responsibilities and carry out all duties, whether general to all employees or specific to the post, relating to health and safety in accordance with the Trust Departmental Safety Policies and any statutory requirements.
