Job summary

We are looking to appoint an innovative and motivated Ophthalmology Trust Doctor developing independent practice across a range of sub-specialties.

This is an excellent opportunity to join a dynamic and forward thinking team comprising 16 Consultants, 6 Specialty and Trust Grade Doctors, 4 Specialty trainees, 5 Nurse Practitioners, 10 Orthoptists, 5 Optometrists and a substantial team of Ophthalmic Nurses, technicians and healthcare assistants. The department also benefits from an ECLO and a team of Failsafe Co-ordinators along with a supportive senior management team within the Head and Neck Directorate.

Teaching and education of non-medical teams including Nurse Practitioners, Orthoptists and Optometrists would be expected to support their development within extended roles.

Main duties of the job

We are looking for an individual with experience to provide new and follow-up out-patient clinics, primarily across the following sub-specialties: Medical retina, Emergency eye care, Glaucoma, Cornea, Cataractand General Ophthalmology.

There is opportunity to develop surgical skills and depending on experience independent lists following competency assurance.

The ability to undertake additional skills including IVI macular injections, various laser techniques and minor operation procedures would be desirable.

There is also the expectation to join the tier 1 on-call rota and support ward rounds.

About us

CHFT has 2 main sites, Ophthalmology being based in Acre Mills Out-patients, Huddersfield and Calderdale Royal Hospital, Halifax. Community clinics are also provided at Westwood Park (Bradford),Todmorden (Halifax) and Lister Lane (Halifax).

The Trust is one of the most digitised in the country having moved to Cerner Millenium Electronic Patient Records (EPR) in 2017. Along with using Medisoft and an electronic referral portal from community Optometry, this makes us currently one of the most paper-light and digitised Ophthalmology Departments in the country.

The department is undertaking a number of transformational projects internally and working in partnership with WYAAT on a number of sub-specialty projects to standardise pathways of care. We also continue our collaborative working with local Optometrists and the CCG to deliver new and patient centred community schemes to meet the demands of our local population.
