Job summary
The
Consultant will work for both East and West Berkshire as part of the CAMHS Learning
Disability Service which covers the localities of: East Slough, Ascot,
Windsor and Maidenhead (RBWM) and Bracknell, West - Wokingham, Reading and
Newbury.
Each unitary authority brings its own particular population needs and
demographics. The Consultant will be primarily responsible for the provision of
psychiatric services to children and young people across the Boroughs.
Main duties of the job
Clinical Responsibilities:
- Assessment of families, children and adolescents who present with a mental health issue and have a learning disability aged 5 to 18 years old
- Treatment for families, children and adolescents, tailored to individual needs, in a multi-disciplinary setting
- It is expected that the Consultants caseload will vary depending on the complexity of cases. This will be reviewed in job planning meetings.
Consultation and collaboration with other agencies in the assessment and treatment of complex cases
Meetings and consultations with other members of the team and members of the Childrens Health Services, which includes Community Paediatricians
Planning and co-ordinating mental health services for children, adolescents and families, where appropriate
- Preparation of professional assessments and reports on those children or young people known to the post holder
- Participate in medical audit and evaluation
About us
Berkshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust (BHFT) was
formed in April 2001 and successfully became licensed as a Foundation Trust in
May 2007. In April 2011 the community services which were previously
the provider arms of NHS Berkshire East and NHS Berkshire West PCTs merged with
the Trust.
The main centres of population are Reading in the
West of the County and Slough in the East.
Within Berkshire there are also major populations at Newbury, Wokingham
in the West and Bracknell, Maidenhead, Windsor and Ascot in the East, as well
and many significant urban developments in smaller towns forming essentially a

- Fully registered with the GMC with a licence to practise at the time of appointment.
- Included on the GMC Specialist Register OR within six months.
- Approved clinician status OR able to achieve within 3 months of appointment.
- Approved under S12 OR able to achieve with 3 months of appointment.
