This is an exciting opportunity to join a multi-disciplinary Tier 4 Alternative to Admission Adolescent Day Unit, located in the grounds of Wokingham Hospital.
You will bring medical leadership to an established multidisciplinary team and care for young people with acute and complex mental health needs.
Berkshire CAMHS is a child and adolescent mental health service that provides support, advice, guidance and treatment for children and young people across the Getting Help, Getting More Help and Getting Risk Support domains of the Thrive framework and this post is part of our local Tier 4 provision.
Main duties of the job
The Consultant will work for the CAMHS Phoenix Unit, an adolescent Tier 4 Alternative to Admission Out of Hospital Service for up to 16 young people. This is a replacement post.
Phoenix Unit provides Tier 4 packages of care with coordinated, intensive and multimodal interventions with evidence-based treatment for severe and enduring mental illness when young patients needs can no longer be met by community CAMHS teams or crisis services.
Psychiatric input, if required out of hours, is provided by a rota of CAMHS consultants on call, and the postholders core working hours are Monday to Friday, 9am-5pm.
About us
Berkshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust (BHFT) was formed in April 2001 and successfully became licensed as a Foundation Trust in May 2007. In April 2011 the community services which were previously the provider arms of NHS Berkshire East and NHS Berkshire West PCTs merged with the Trust.
The main centres of population are Reading in the West of the County and Slough in the East. Within Berkshire there are also major populations at Newbury, Wokingham in the West and Bracknell, Maidenhead, Windsor and Ascot in the East, as well and many significant urban developments in smaller towns forming essentially a single conurbation along the M4 Corridor.
Berkshire is characterised by concentrations of population and large rural areas. It includes some of the most affluent and least deprived communities in the country, but also has pockets of markedly deprived wards.
The Trust is part of two Integrated Care Systems (Frimley ICS and Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire & Berkshire West ICS) and partners with six local unitary authorities. The trust has an outstanding CQC rating.
