Job summary
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced HIV/ GUM Consultant, to join an established, fully integrated Community sexual health service, based in The Garden Clinic in Slough. We are rated as an outstanding organisation by CQC. Consultant cover will be Monday to Friday. The service has 2 other Consultants in post.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will have 10 programmed activities (PAs) each week. They will work with the multidisciplinary clinical team to provide a high quality, effective and safe service for all patients requiring integrated sexual health and HIV care attending our services.

Upton Hospital
is a community hospital five minutes’ walk from Slough High Street. On site are
rehabilitation beds for the elderly, community paediatric outpatients and an
NHS Walk-in Centre. The 2021, census
indicates the population
of Slough was 158,500and is one of the most ethnically
diverse outside London in the United Kingdom.
Adjacent to but
separate from the Garden Clinic is a Sexual Assault Referral Centre. British
Pregnancy Advisory Service has the local contract for termination of pregnancy
and has a nearby location in Slough.
A full-time consultant in GUM was first appointed at
Upton Hospital in 1988.

This role will include responsibility with the
other consultants and lead nurse for reviewing and developing clinical practice
across the service, working in collaboration with clinicians to ensure that all
care provided is aligned to national guidance, provided by the National
Institute of Health and Care Excellence (NICE), the British HIV Association (BHIVA)
the British Association for Sexual Health and HIV (BASHH) and FSRH.
You will focus and strengthen the
culture of quality within the department, ensuring that all staff are working
towards an outstanding CQC rating within the department. The service works with
our research department to ensure that we use research and audit to improve the
quality of care delivered.
Berkshire Healthcare have
commenced a quality improvement (QI) programme which will be rolled out to all
services. The Garden Clinic is due to start on this programme and this role
will be key in providing leadership and guidance to embed the QI within the
service.
