Berkshire Healthcare is seeking dedicated general practitioners (GPs) to join our Urgent Care Out of Hours service (WestCall) which provides urgent medical advice and assessment to all patients living in the Berkshire West area when daytime primary care is closed.

Operating weekdays between 6:30pm to 8am and 24 hours across weekends and bank holidays, our service provides advice and treatment for patients who have called 111 and require urgent primary care management.

We offer an individually tailored induction programme to help you settle into your role followed by ongoing professional support from clinical meetings, case review and peer feedback, all of which is designed to help you become an experienced and skilled out of hours clinician.

As part of our innovative team, you will provide consultation and appropriate management for patients requiring a home visit including those residing in patients' homes, care settings or a community hospital bed. A fully equipped car including certain point-of-care testing and full access to clinical software is provided. A dedicated driver will be available for all visits.

This role is a mobile face-to-face clinical role based from either Wokingham Community Hospital or West Berkshire Community Hospital. The hours we currently have on offer are:

Wokingham - Sunday 1900-2400/2400-0800hrs, Monday 1900-2400/2400-0800hrs

Main duties of the job

  • Provide timely clinical care to patients based in their usual place of residence.

  • Access to hospital discharge letters and patient test results which facilitates safe patient care and minimises clinical risk.

  • To ensure that where appropriate, the patient is referred for further management with the relevant service, e.g. secondary care specialities, urgent community response and other community services.

  • To contribute to the training and development of Clinical and non-clinical staff, e.g. GP registrars, Trainee Advanced Practitioners, Paramedics.

  • Work within local prescribing guidelines (SCAN/Microguide) with the ability to prescribe electronically.
