Job summary

This is an opportunity to join an enthusiastic and skilled workforce with a great team spirit. Berkshire Community Dental Service has 7 clinics ranging from Newbury to Langley and over 40 members of staff. The service treats patients with additional needs including children, people with learning and physical disabilities and the elderly.

Main duties of the job

About the Job

  • You will act as first point of contact with the department by receiving patients and visitors to the dental clinic

  • You will provide administrative support to the clinic including answering the phone, responding to messages, scheduling of appointments, typing correspondence, compiling and distribution of standard letters.

  • You will deal with all enquires by telephone in a calm, sympathetic/empathic way, assist patients in an understanding manner especially where there are barriers to understanding e.g. language, poor hearing or if the caller is distressed or aggressive.

  • You will be proficient in the use of Microsoft Office software and will be expected to use the

Education/Qualifications/Training

Essential

  • NVQ3 or equivalent qualification/experience
  • Basic knowledge of administration and/or office procedures
  • Previous knowledge and experience of working in an office and/or customer care environment, undertaking a full range of administrative duties, including minute-taking
  • Knowledge and experience of using a variety of software programmes/packages

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Essential

  • Good interpersonal, communication and reporting skills
  • Ability to empathise, be supportive and sensitive to the needs of others. Ability to demonstrate tact, diplomacy and empathy when working with patients, relatives and carers.
  • Ability to use a practical problem-solving approach in everyday situations
