Job summary

We currently have a new vacancy within our growing team for a Specialist School Nurse. For this position we are looking for somebody who is passionate about working with children and young people with complex needs and learning disabilities.

You will primarily be based at Avenue School in Reading but may be required to provide cover to other sites across West Berkshire, dependant on service need. You will take overall responsibility for the assessment, provision, management, and evaluation of evidenced based nursing care to children and young people (CYP) within the specialist school nursing service, in partnership with the Community Children's Nursing Team. You will provide training to school staff and nursery nurses with agreed competency-based training packages.

For this role you will need to have good clinical and organisational skills and the ability to work independently and autonomously, whilst also remaining part of the wider team. Effective communication with the multi-disciplinary team is vital with a good knowledge of safeguarding.

Your working pattern will be 08.00 - 16.00 full time term-time only but this may need to be flexible to suit the training needs of the school. You will be part of a wider service including the Community Children's Nursing (CCN) Team West.

Flexible/ part time working will be considered.

Main duties of the job

  • You will take overall responsibility for the assessment, provision, management, and evaluation of evidenced based nursing care to the CYP in partnership with the CCN Team.

  • You will provide training, mentoring and care planning for staff nurses, nursery nurses, support workers and school staff with agreed competency base training packages.

  • You will be responsible for writing and updating care plans for the school.

  • Youwill work in partnership with the safeguarding and children in care team supporting CYP within the school, contributing to reports and attending relevant meetings.
