Job summary

A new and developing opportunity has become available within the Estates and Facilities Directorate for a Health, Safety and Security Management Specialist, to work alongside multi-disciplined colleagues within Berkshire Healthcare's Compliance and Risk Team. We are based in central Reading where we provide support to Berkshire Healthcare staff, across a geographically wide and varied estate which supports our community based services.

Working with and supporting the Trust's Health, Safety and Security Management agenda, the post holder will be required to support compliance by taking responsibility for specific health and safety, fire safety and security management related work streams, whilst acting in a specialist advisory capacity to staff at all levels on health, safety, fire and security related legislation.

The post holder will be expected to travel across Trust sites in order to support both clinical and non-clinical teams with the delivery of local expectations. We are looking for a self-motivated, highly organised individual with a helpful, approachable, and supporting manner, to successfully deliver this essential and challenging role.

Main duties of the job

  • To ensure that appropriate steps are taken to continue to create and maintain a proactive safety and security culture within the Trust and to ensure that incidents/breaches are detected and reported. Where required publicise lessons learnt in accordance with Trust and NHS guidelines so that a deterrent effect can be created
  • To act as a Competent Person in relation to the provision of specialist and technical advice to all Trust staff on Health and Safety matters as defined in the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974, The Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999 and other related legislation
  • To undertake highly complex and/or highly technical assessments where the nature of the hazard or process requires such specialist input.
  • With the support of the Fire Safety Specialist, conduct fire safety risk assessments, evacuation drills and exercises, with reviews as appropriate
  • To act as a Security Management Specialist in relation to the provision of specialist and technical advice to the Trust and oversee and undertake the improvement and delivery of a wide range of security management work including measures to proactively improve security management, raise security awareness and reduce violence and aggression; all in accordance with the relevant requirements and security standards and subsequent governing bodies

  • HND and /or Degree level education or equivalent
  • Possession of, or evidence of working towards specialist qualifications in Fire, Health & Safety and Security Management. e.g. NEBOSH General Certificate, Fire Management in Healthcare Premises, Local Security Management Specialist (LSMS), Security Management qualifications (must not include security guarding).
