Job summary

The Co-ordinator works independently and is the pivotal role for the Berkshire West Children and Young People in Care Team. The Co-ordinator is responsible for the health assessment process and provides a comprehensive secretarial support role for the team.

The post holder is the first point of contact for multi agency professionals including social care, Children and young People in Care and foster carers and will involve the handling of highly confidential and distressing information on a regular basis.

To support the Consultants and co-ordinate the Initial Health Assessment Clinics at Erlegh House, University of Reading.

Main duties of the job

  1. Due to the complex nature of this role the post holder must be able to use a high level of persuasion and be able to negotiate between social workers, health professionals and foster carers .The post holder must be willing to use own initiative and act independently upon their decisions and must be able to meet deadlines. The post holder will need to be highly motivated and personally resilient due to the often distressing information received
  2. The post holder will be required to work autonomously to ensure a high quality service and will be responsible for organising their own daily workload as well as arranging and organising the Initial Health Clinics
  3. To be responsible for organising Initial Health assessments within the timescale set out in National recommended guidelines (Department of Health 2015)
  4. To liaise and negotiate with social care regarding appointments and to inform relevant outside multi agency professionals of details
  5. Liaising with out of area providers to arrange Initial Health Assessment appointments and to negotiate the return of the completed reports within specified time frames
  6. To liaise with and update Children and Young People in Care Clinical Team on an ongoing basis
  7. To be responsible for ensuring all essential information is received from social services. To interpret and act upon the information received and either organise an Initial Health Assessment or take further action by following the escalation process
