Job summary

This is a fantastic opportunity for an enthusiastic and experienced Diabetes Specialist Nurse. With a warm personality and great people skills, you will need to be adaptable to change and be able to influence new ways of working.

As a Diabetes Inpatient Specialist Nurse, you will be willing to undertake relevant training and be able to demonstrate innovative practice.

You will be responsible for providing high quality evidence-based care for people with diabetes, their families, and carers whilst they are inpatients.

The team is currently expanding and will be moving to operating a 6-day service. Due to new ways of working there may be the opportunity to work in the community and at the Diabetes Centre in Windsor as part of this role.

It is an exciting time to join the team and there are great opportunities for further training and development.

Band 5 may be considered for the right candidate.

Main duties of the job

Working as part of a multidisciplinary team providing education and management to people with diabetes whilst they are inpatients.

Insulin Initiation and management

Emerging therapies

Insulin Pump Therapy

Flash Glucose Monitoring and CGMS

Diabetes in Pregnancy

Essential

  • Registered General Nurse
  • Educated to diploma/degree level or equivalent level of education.
  • Diabetes qualification or e.g., ENB 928, Warwick Diabetes Care or equivalent
  • Evidence of further professional qualification.
  • Attendance at conferences, forums, study days or meetings related to diabetes management.

Desirable

  • Teaching qualification e.g., ENB 998, or equivalent
  • Attendance at modular courses related to diabetes management. E.g., Insulin initiation, insulin pump therapy, carbohydrate counting.

Previous Experience

Essential

  • Post registration experience as a general nurse for at least 3 years.
  • Relevant post registration experience in the field of diabetes for at least 1 year
  • Experience of training or mentoring nurses and other health professionals

Desirable

  • Experience of working in the community
  • Experience of designing audit/research projects
  • Experience of liaising between primary and secondary care
  • Experience of working within a multi-disciplinary team
