Job summary
This is an exciting and innovative role which is designed to provide a clear operational and clinical leadership career pathway for our staff through excellent leadership skills, providing support and deputising for the ward manager in the operational and clinical development of the acute Ward Team.
The role is designed to enhance the operational ward management structure, whilst providing additional senior clinical responsibility for the co-ordination and implementation of effective, evidence-based, patient focussed nursing care. This will be developed through effective communication and liaison with all members of the multi-disciplinary team, the hospital Senior Leadership Team and with other staff providing support services
Main duties of the job
- The individual will ensure a consistent leadership presence in order to provide continuity of clinical care and clinical support for the ward team. In addition, awareness and ability to reflect and respond effectively to the development needs of the clinical team will be essential. The post holder will be an excellent role model in attitude, communication and behaviours, inspiring excellent clinical care across every level of the team.
- The post holder will have operational responsibilities for the ward, ensuring effective ward management in the absence of the Ward Manager, and a high level of integration with other services and organisations. In particular, viewing the ward as one part of the continuum of care and facilitating opportunities for service users to benefit from inpatient care.
- The Post holder will provide Clinical Support (predominantly for patients with complex physical/mental or neurodevelopmental needs, safeguarding, care planning, referrals, complex case forums, Trust risk panel work, discharge planning).
- Work alongside the Physical Health Lead for PPH and champion physical health care, monitor practice and the making of referrals, support in developing staff in physical health care eg wound care, pressure sores, physical observations
- Act as a Carers Champion for the Ward and actively seek to promote feedback from Service Users and Carers in line with the the Trust strategy.
- Promote and Support Quality Improvement including QMI
