West Berkshire Community Dietetic Service based in Wokingham has an opportunity to offer a permanent Band 6 role but would consider Band 5 with the correct skills with a view to progressing to a Band 6 role after meeting the required competencies. The post is part time (18.75hrs) although full time hours may be considered.

The post holder will be covering a varied community caseload, including supporting the HEN Clinical Lead with a case load of home enteral nutrition, diabetes education groups as well as patients requiring nutritional support.

We are a mobile working service and offer our patients the choice of face-to-face, virtual and phone appointments. To support this, we have excellent IT access and support staff home-working where appropriate. There is also the flexibility to work from other dietetic bases in West Berkshire including Thatcham and Reading.

As a team we strongly value continuing professional development and offer an employee-led appraisal process and personal development plan. For newly qualified staff, mentoring and a preceptorship programme is provided. We will support you to develop your ideas for research and audit and offer collaboration and training with our Research & Development and Clinical Effectiveness teams. We also engage in student training and facilitate teaching opportunities.

Main duties of the job

  • Working under the guidance of the Team Lead Dietitian, to provide dietetic care to a varied and diverse caseload of patients in the community and community inpatients.
  • Providing specialist dietetic treatments e.g. diabetes remission, nutritional support and home enteral nutrition
  • Supporting the team with the delivery of Diabetes Education, Xpert, for patients with newly diagnosed diabetes.
  • Delivering a proportion of care using online platforms e.g. One Consultation and MS Teams
  • Visiting patients in their own home, where appropriate, to offer HEN and nutritional support advice.
  • Coaching, delegating work and supporting Dietetic Assistant Practitioners (DAPs) and involvement in student training programme.
  • Involvement in departmental research activity

The "must haves" for this role:

  • A four-year degree in Nutrition and Dietetics and registered with Health Care Professionals Council and full BDA membership
  • Ability to demonstrate good experience and knowledge in dietetics including home enteral feeding, diabetes and nutrition support.
  • Aptitude for coaching and supervising junior staff including Dietetic Assistant Practitioners.
  • Ability to prioritise workload and work flexibly, travelling to multiple sites if required.
  • Ability to work from home with access to wifi using equipment provided by BHFT
