offering an opportunity for 2 trainee advanced clinical practitioner roles
within the Emergency Department at Warrington and Halton Teaching Hospitals NHS
Foundation Trust. The role of trainee advanced clinical practitioner involves
both work based and academic learning, contributing towards gaining a masters
degree in advanced clinical practice from a Higher Education Institute (HEI)
within the North West. The trainee advanced clinical practitioner role will
develop knowledge and understanding of the Health Education England four
pillars of advanced clinical practice (HEE, 2017). These positions will be
supported with an allocated Coordinating Educational Supervisor within the
Emergency Department with dedicated supervision session time for reflection on
work based learning and development.
Main duties of the job

Responsibilities whilst in training:
1. Clinical Practice (under supervision)
a) Assess patients with both minor and
complex needs through history taking, physical examination and appropriate use
of investigations to confirm diagnosis.
b) Clinically examine and assess patient
needs from a physiological, psychological and social perspective, and plan
clinical care accordingly.
c) Plan, implement and evaluate an effective
management plan for the patient, ensuring safe discharge/referral and/or
transfer to an appropriate health care service.
d) Develop the skills and knowledge to
diagnose and manage acute conditions supported by appropriate supervision.
e) Perform safe management of patients
through face-to-face consultation.

Warrington
Hospital is the larger acute hospital in the Warrington and Halton Trust, with
578 in-patient beds. The second hospital, Halton General, has 42 in-patient
beds, extensive out-patient services and an Urgent Care Centre. The ED at
Warrington serves a population of over 310,000 people; it is open 24 hours
daily and sees 95,000 new patients per year. There are a wide range of
specialties on site including Medicine, Surgery, Intensive Care, Trauma and
Orthopaedics, ENT, Ophthalmology, Paediatrics, Obstetrics & Gynaecology and

patient centred clinical effectiveness in care, developing the essential
clinical skills to provide care autonomously following the completion of the
trainee position whilst actively being involved in quality improvement
alongside the wider Emergency Department team. This will include developing the
skills to perform clinical examination, diagnosis, clinical reasoning, decision
making and planning patient care and treatment, diagnosing, prescribing, contributing
to health promotion, and maintaining the safe discharge of patients.
The TACP, will be required to remain
aware of their own individual learning
needs during their training process and work towards developing a comprehensive
portfolio of evidence across the four pillars of advanced practice, inclusive of
clinical competencies. The trainee will regularly meet with their coordinating
educational supervisor and will receive peer support other qualified / TACP
within the trust. The trainee ACP will be expected to continue their onward
development through completion of the Royal College of Emergency Medicine ACP
Curriculum.
The trainee advanced clinical practitioner post holders will work
closely with all members of the multidisciplinary team to develop the skills to
play an integral role in the operational/strategic leadership and development
of the service.
