Job summary

This is a fantastic opportunity for a motivated individual to apply for a Nurse band 6 post within the Digestive Diseases Clinical Business Unit. The role will be will be 37.5 hours and will enable the successful candidate to progress and enhance their skills to a band 6 .

The post holder should possess excellent clinical and leadership skills in the field of pre and post-operative surgical care with a wide variety of experience. Advanced communication skills are essential in addition to proven mentorship skills. The successful candidate will demonstrate an ability to lead the nursing team and possess the knowledge and skills required to deliver best nursing practice. You will support the learning and support in the clinical environment, with the focus not only on new staff joining the department but in ensuring ongoing clinical support for all staff. The successful candidate will work closely with the department manager, as well as the departments senior nursing team already in post in identifying the needs of the clinical area.

Main duties of the job

Within the band 6 role, the expectation is to support the ward manger with co-ordination of the day to day running of the unit and list planning to ensure optimisation of bed capacity ensuring patient safety and clinical excellence. As a registered, accountable and autonomous nurse you will act in the best interests of patients at all times and take responsibility for own actions and decisions. Be responsible for planning, delivering, and supervising safe and compassionate care, and evaluating the effectiveness of care, without supervision. You will be required to demonstrate strong leadership qualities and be open, transparent, and trustworthy.

Essential

  • Broad range of clinical experience and experience in surgical Nursing.
  • RN (Adult) Degree or equivalent experience
  • Teaching and assessing

  • Able to present written information in a logical manner.
  • Basic IT skills in work processing and spreadsheets.
  • Able to manage own workload, co-ordinate the work of others and work with minimal supervision.

  • Knowledge of professional and NHS issues.
  • Assertive.
  • Ability to develop effective interpersonal relationships with colleagues in the health care setting.
  • Basic IT skills
  • To sure competence and updates self-declaration of medical devices, via -equip system.
  • Moving and Handling training, to be completed and up to date.
  • Expose and experience in challenging conversations. Exposure to distressing circumstances.
  • Ability to work shift patterns including long days, weekends/bank holidays and nights

  • Management and knowledge of patient controlled analgesia pumps.
  • Total parental Nutrition administration, care of chest drains and central venous catheters
  • Previous experience in the management of a preoperative and post operatively patients.
