Job summary

We have a vacancy for an enthusiastic and caring Scrub Practitioner within our busy theatre suite.

Are you a motivated and patient focused Registered Nurse/ Operating Department Practitioner (ODP) who is proud to demonstrate a continuous high standard of clinical practice, then Warrington and Halton Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust would love to hear from you!!

We offer a wide range of surgical specialties Ophthalmic, Orthopedics & Trauma, General surgery including Colorectal, Upper GI, Gynecology, Breast, ENT & Urology as well as providing 24-hour emergency surgery, Obstetrics & Critical care services for one of Europes and the UKs fastest growing and most vibrant towns.

Main duties of the job

As a successful candidate you will be responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of perioperative care programs. Our successful candidates will be expected to demonstrate the highest standards of scrub practice

You will provide high quality care for patients undergoing surgical intervention and skilled assistance to the Surgeon to always ensure the highest standard of patient safety.

You will work alongside Anaesthetics and Recovery Practitioners supported by a brilliant carer team to ensure the patients path through the theatre suite is a safe and productive journey.

Working as part of the multidisciplinary team the post holder will primarily provide comprehensive skilled assistance within all aspects of their role in Anaesthetics, Theatre Scrub and recovery.

They will be responsible for the provision of high quality, individualised care to patients/clients and relatives as part of a multidisciplinary team.

In addition to clinical duties, the direct supervision and training of junior staff will be their responsibility in order to ensure the provision of a high quality and cost effective service to patients and users.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Must have recent experience in an acute care setting.
  • Documented evidence of supervising staff
  • Documented evidence of delegating workload and monitoring progress
  • Registration with HCPC as an ODP
  • Registration on Part 1, or 12 of NMC Register (RN Adult)
  • For RN undertaking Anaesthetic role qualifications must be recognised a post graduate university awarded anaesthetic qualification
  • Evidence of ability to teach in practice
  • Comprehensive applied Anatomy and Physiology for relevant clinical area
  • Knowledge of surgical procedures
  • HPC/NMC standards and limitations of professional practice
  • Evidence based practice
  • Legal requirements relating to patients and staff
  • Knowledge of Clinical Governance agenda
  • Aware of the responsibilities for assuming sole charge of a Theatre department.
  • Effective communication skills both written and verbal/non-verbal
