Staff Nurse - Cardiac Catheter Suite

Job summary

We are looking for an enthusiastic, hardworking, self-motivated and energetic staff nurse to join our Cardiology team, working within our purpose built Cardiac Catheter Suite. The team consists of 5 nurses and 2 lab assistants, with additional support from radiographers, cardiac physiologists and cardiologists.

Current hours are 8.5 hour days, Monday to Friday (3 days)

Main duties of the job

The successful applicant will ideally have some recent cardiology and/or Cath Lab/Interventional Radiology experience. They will be expected to work in the Catheter Laboratory, the day ward and the nurse led pre-assessment service.

A preceptorship will commence on appointment. There will be developmental opportunities available in the future with in-house and external training provided.

The Cardiac Catheter Suite comprises of a state of the art cardiac catheter laboratory (refurbished lab opened May 2022), a dedicated 10 bedded day ward, offices, clerical areas and education/seminar facilities.

To assist the Department Manager in creating and maintaining an environment in which members of the ward/department team can contribute to the maximum of their ability in providing a high standard of care, staff welfare and teaching of nursing and non-nursing staff.

The post holder is responsible for the assessment of care needs and the development of programs of care, and/or the implementation and evaluation of these programs. He/she is expected to carry out all relevant forms of care without direct supervision and may be required to demonstrate procedures, as well as supervising qualified and/or unqualified staff.

  • UK Registered Nurse (Adult)

Desirable

  • Advanced life support skills
  • Competence in venous cannulation and IV drug administration.

Skills, Knowledge and Competencies

  • Understanding of quality and change in the clinical setting.
  • Ability to communicate in a variety of settings with patients of varying levels of understanding.
  • Ability to create rapport with patients in a short space of time with very little background knowledge. This is particularly important when supporting those patients who have been given bad news e.g. require surgery.
  • Able to present factual information and deal with questions.
  • Able to maintain accurate patient records.
  • Basic IT skills in e-mail.
  • Basic knowledge of professional and NHS issues.
  • Ability to develop effective interpersonal relationships with colleagues in the health care setting.
  • Willingness to develop specialist skills within the field of Cardiac nursing
  • Willingness to undertake In Hospital Life Support training
