Job summary

Warrington and Halton Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is proud to invite applications to a Specialist Doctor post in Emergency Medicine. The successful candidates will join a dynamic, enthusiastic and motivated Emergency Department team providing high quality emergency care to the population of Warrington and Halton.

Undifferentiated, ambulatory patients are referred to SDEC directly from the Emergency Department. The role would involve working on the unit as a senior clinician leading a multidisciplinary team, assessing and independently discharging these patients (where appropriate) and providing support to more junior members of the team where appropriate.

With the skills they have developed during (GP) specialty training the Associate Specialist Doctor will also take an active role in the development and training of resident doctors completing Specialist Training in General Practice rotating through placements on SDEC.

The role will include out of hours working within a reasonable job plan including a weekend pattern. The role will also, in time, invite the successful candidate with the opportunity to take on governance, clinical leadership and management of the Emergency Department Ambulatory Area on SDEC.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will take part in the initial assessment, investigation, diagnosis and treatment of all patients attending the ED Ambulatory Area on SDEC at Warrington Hospital. Appropriate arrangements for continuing care will be made in conjunction with colleagues in the relevant specialties, if the patient is not discharged.The post holder will regularly liaise with the ED Physician in Charge (EPIC) based in ED Majors to facilitate the coordination of care for Ambulatory patients.To be able to work collaboratively within a team with varied skills and specialities. Especially the Medical and Surgical Team on SDEC.Within the hours of duty, the post holder will share in the day-to-day supervision for Junior Medical Staff in the Department.The staff member will be expected to participate in Major Incident Procedures.There is also the necessity to develop pathways suitable for ambulatory patients presenting to the hospital.An opportunity for service development including a hot clinic.
