Job summary

We are seeking to appoint a permanent Specialty Doctor in ENT to join our team of 3 Consultants, 3 Specialty doctors and 1 rotating Deanery trainee.

The department also includes Specialist ENT and Macmillan Nurses, Ear dressings nurse, Audiology team to support the ENT clinics.

Warrington is a teaching hospital and committed to developing staff. We offer a range of general and subspecialty clinics and have 9 theatre sessions per week for ENT.

Main duties of the job

A large part of this role is to provide support to the emergency/casualty clinics, general clinics. There is also opportunity to gain experience within subspecialty clinics. Access to theatre sessions can be discussed at interview and will be dependent on experience and theatre availability.

The post holder will be expected to join the on-call rota which has a 1:5 on call commitment for weekday and 1:5 for weekend. Warrington provide senior support to junior members of staff and ENT trainees.

The job plan will include SPA and administrative PAs and can be discussed at interview. A formal job plan meeting will be arranged with the CBU Manager after commencement to the post.

About us

The ENT department at Warrington is located in the main out-patients department of the Hospital.

The department also includes all administrative staff on site which provides close working with secretarial, waiting list and management teams.

The team also work across two other sites. Halton hospital (Nightingale building) and CSTM (Sir Captain Tom Moore building) also at the Halton hospital site.

Due to the co-location of administrative and management offices there is excellent close working relationships with all supporting staff.

Role Summary

Warrington & Halton Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust wishes to appoint a Specialty Doctor in ENT, this position is permanent.

The candidate appointed will work on both the Warrington and Halton hospital sites conducting outpatient clinics, 2nd level on calls, and supporting in theatre where needed.

This is a full-time post in ENT amounting to 40 hours plus out of hours on calls.

Applicants are required to have MBBS or equivalent medical qualification, eligible for registration with the GMC and license to practice Evidence of achievement of Foundation competencies in line with GMC standards and previous experience in ENT. Candidates with Fellowship examination and UK experience is an advantage.

Main Tasks and Responsibilities

All Medical and Dental Staff employed by the Trust are expected to comply with hospital Health and Safety Policies, Clinical Governance and other Risk Management Policies.

The successful candidate will be responsible to and work under the supervision of the ENT Consultants and work alongside our Middle Grade Doctors.

It will be expected that the appointed candidate will

Conduct outpatient clinics

Ward rounds

Participate in the on-call rota (1:5 for night shifts and weekend shifts).This will be prospective cover.

Operating emergency surgical lists and attend A&E and surgical emergency clinics carrying out administration related to these activities.

Support in elective operating lists

The successful candidate is expected to participate in all the other on-going activities of the department including audit, research projects and to attend various departmental meetings and teaching sessions (MDTs, Audit meetings, M&M, ward and formal teaching).

The successful candidate will be joining the ENT department compromising of 3 Consultants, 3 Specialty Doctors, 1 ST3+ (Mersey Rotation), 1 ITF and 1 FY2. The post is offered on the basis that the successful applicant will work flexibly.

Job Plan

The job plan will be a prospective agreement that sets out the doctors, responsibilities, and objectives for the coming year. It will cover all aspects the doctors professional practice including clinical work, teaching, research, education, and managerial responsibilities. It provides a clear schedule of commitments, both internal and external. In addition, it will include personal objectives, including details of their link to wider service objectives, and details of the support required by the doctor to fulfil the job plan and the objectives.

A formal job plan will be agreed between the appointee, the CBU Manager and Clinical Director, with final agreement by the Deputy Medical Director.

It will be reviewed at 3 months & thereafter annually or at any time, but no less than 3 months after a previous review, as requested by the appointee, Medical Director or Clinical Director & adjusted accordingly to the agreement of both parties.
