experience in Intensive Care Medicine in a busy, dynamic district general hospital
critical care unit with an excellent reputation and outstanding results?
Warrington Critical Care Unit is looking to recruit doctors to join our team at
the equivalent level of CT3+trainee who are interested in Intensive Care
Medicine and Anaesthesia. These fellow posts will have an additional element of
gaining experience in a teaching/SIM, echocardiography, research or management to
help build your CV and experience.
Main duties of the job
You will contribute to the
on-call rota covering the unit and ward referrals on a 1:8 basis covering
long-days and night-shifts.
On appointment you will be able
to pick a specialist interest in one of the areas outlined below:
Teaching/SIM: Working with the Faculty Tutor and
postgraduate training team you will help design a multi-disciplinary weekly
teaching session for all grades of trainees, medical students, nursing and
allied health professionals. You will also help to organise and run the weekly
in-situ SIM sessions.
ECHO: Working with our ECHO lead you will learn
ECHO skills to FUSIC level and help to set up teaching and training of other
medical staff on the unit. Our aim is that bedside ECHO performed by our
clinical team will become embedded in our day-to-day practice on ICU and this
post will help achieve this.
Research: As a unit our participation in
research has increased drastically. We are looking for someone to take on the
role of research fellow on the unit and assist with our Consultants, AHPs and
trust research team with recruiting to trials, gaining consent and gaining
invaluable research experience. You will have opportunity to be research lead
for new trials we will recruit to on the unit.

About us
Warrington Critical Care Unit
admits approximately 900 patients per year from a variety of medical and
surgical specialities. You will work in a team staffed by a specialist team of nine
critical care consultants and three-tiers of doctors and ACCPs. This is a
full-time role for 6-12 months with the opportunity to develop your clinical
and leadership skills, as well as time for further professional development and
protected teaching time.
During your placement you will
gain experience in the clinical management of acutely unwell, critically ill
patients. You will gain practical experience in advanced airway management, US
guided IV access (peripheral and central lines) and focused ECHO. We have
regular MDT, radiology MDT, M&M, in-situ Sim training and teaching sessions
which you will be encouraged to attend and participate in.
