An opportunity has
arisen for a dynamic, enthusiastic Consultant to join our Rheumatology Team at
Warrington and Halton Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
Warrington Hospital is
the larger acute hospital in the Warrington and Halton Trust, with 578
in-patient beds. The second hospital,
Halton General, has 42 in-patient beds, extensive out-patient services and a
newly opened Urgent Care Centre. The ED at Warrington serves a population of
over 310,000 people; it is open 24 hours daily and sees 85,000 new patients per
year. There are a wide range of specialties on site including medicine,
surgery, orthopaedics, ENT, ophthalmology, paediatrics, obstetrics and gynaecology. Warrington and Halton Teaching Hospital has
been rated Good in its most recent CQC inspection.
Main duties of the job
The Rheumatology service
has dedicated Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy support on both sites and
secretarial support as well. The
successful candidate is welcome to develop his/her own specialty interest. The Rheumatology Department has access to
ultrasound equipment and a portion of the clinics offer ultrasound screening
for the early diagnosis of inflammatory arthritis. Candidates with an interest in Ultrasound are
welcome.
This post is subject to
NHS Employment Check Standards including a DBS check (formerly CRB). An
enhanced DBS disclosure is required for this post which includes a check of the
Vulnerable Adults List and may include the Childrens List and/or the
Independent Safeguarding Authorities (ISAs) barred lists. A charge of £44 will
be made to successful candidate(s), which will be deducted from the first 3
months salary. In addition to this you will also be required to re-pay any
future costs that may arise in relation to DBS fees.
About us
The Rheumatology team
are looking to appoint a Consultant Rheumatologist. This is a permanent post
based at Warrington and Halton NHS Trust, to replace a retirement post. The
appointee will play a key role in the development of our services and will
contribute Rheumatology and the provision of outpatient clinics. The jobs
attract payment at 10 -12 PA per week.

around 2000 new referrals in 2020, and provided 10 000 appointments, including
nurse lead appointments. We receive an average 5 ward referrals/week.
All
Consultants are expected to complete a minimum of 42 of their 52 fixed sessions
within a full year. Leave requests with 6 weeks notice.
Applicants are required to hold Membership of the Royal
College of Physicians (UK) or equivalent qualifications, to be fully registered
with the General Medical Council and listed on the Specialist Register or due
to be registered within six months of the date of appointment.
The appointee will be expected to work within the shared care
agreement. The Rheumatology Department
receives referrals through urgent referral pathway to an early arthritis clinic
and a temporal arteritis pathway with Vascular Ultrasound support. There is
also an Electronic Advice and Guidance service run by consultants. The
Rheumatology team has a Registrar who takes part in the Merseyside Deanery rota
who also is a trainee in general medicine. Our Physiotherapy team runs a
Fibromyalgia and Ankylosing Spondylitis service.
