Job summary
We are seeking
applications for a substantive consultant ophthalmologist with a special
interest in the following areas, glaucoma, general ophthalmology, paediatric
ophthalmology, adult motility and neuro-ophthalmology.
The
team are very forward thinking and include many non-medical staff undertaking
extended roles supported by the Consultant team.
The
department is committed to research and development and have been involved in
various projects recently.
There
is a robust clinical audit programme which is multi-disciplinary and occurs once
per month.
Teaching
sessions occur on a regular basis and ne appointments will be encouraged to
deliver teaching sessions.
Main duties of the job
The main duties
of this role include independent management of all patients under your care, in
particular your area of sub specialism. This includes independent surgical
management of your caseload. The department is committed to the educational
supervision of ophthalmic surgical trainees and the post holder will be
expected to partake in clinical supervision of trainees. In addition the department
has Optometrists, Orthoptists and Nurses working in advanced roles and it is
expected that there is ongoing training and support for the staff in the
extended roles.
The
post holder will be expected to join the on call rota which is 1:14, shared
with St Helens and Knowsley Consultants.
Outpatient
clinics may be a mixture of face to face and virtual, dependent on the sub
specialism and the theatre allocation may include laser sessions, dependent on
the area of sub specialism.
About us
The Ophthalmology
department is based at Warrington Hospital in its own wing of the hospital.
This includes 27 private clinical rooms and various diagnostic and imaging
rooms. Laser rooms and 2 Injection Theatres are based in the department.
All
management and admin offices are co-located in the area. This co-location of
clinical, administration and management teams allow for efficient and close
working relationships.
The
team are very friendly and have a supporting nature to one another. We look

- On the Specialist Register for Ophthalmology, holding CCT or expected to do within 6 months of interview

- Training and experience in area of sub-specialty.
- Evidence of a wide experience in Ophthalmology and UK experience
- Ability to run independent cataract lists
- Independent in ophthalmic surgery.
