Consultant in Diabetes and Endocrinology

Job summary

The post is a replacement post based at Warrington Hospital working across Warrington and Halton sites offered on a permanent basis. Applications are invited for a Consultant in Diabetes and Endocrinology who holds MB ChB or equivalent qualifications, MRCP, to be fully registered with the General Medical Council and listed on the Specialist Register or due to be registered within six months of the date of appointment.

The appointee will support the development of our services and will contribute to weekday cover to A2 Medical Ward, outpatients for new and follow up patients in Diabetes and Endocrinology Clinics, take part in the consultant of the day rota answering advice and guidance requests for the community..

There is also a commitment to carry out some weekday afternoon acute medicine sessions and 1:8 weekends supporting medical admissions

Main duties of the job

The post holder will join a team of 6 diabetes and endocrine consultants to provide weekday cover to A2 medical ward. They will carry out some weekday afternoon sessions and around 1:8 weekends supporting medical admission. This is remunerated in addition to the standard 10 PA's.

Job responsibilities

There will be clinics for new and follow up patients in diabetes and general endocrinology clinics.

The appointee will take part in the consultant of the week rota which involves answering advice and guidance requests for the community, triaging and starting initial investigations for new referrals, supporting the diabetes nurse inpatient team and seeing any ward referrals. The diabetes & endocrinology registrar will assist with ward reviews if available.

The appointee will be expected to attend and be actively involved in MDT meetings and directorate clinical governance activity across Diabetes and Endocrinology Services.

It is expected the post holder will gain educational supervisor status for the GMC register.

As diabetes related technology is the way forward the appointee would be expected to gain competency with insulin pumps, hybrid closed loop devices and continuous glucose monitor analysis.

The appointee will actively participate in the quality improvement agenda adopting an initiative of choice to lead on.

Provide active teaching and supervision to medical trainees and undergraduates based on A2, in diabetes and endocrinology rotations and in allied sub-speciality if applicable.
