Senior Chief Cardiac Physiologist

Job summary

We are looking to appoint an experienced and passionate echocardiographer to support the service leads in delivering a dynamic training and quality assurance programme. The role will be 100% based in echocardiography and will be a mix of practical scanning of both inpatients and outpatients; supporting trainee echocardiographers and quality assurance activities including audits and service evaluation.

Main duties of the job

The postholder will be expected to engage in all areas of echocardiography with a main focus on providing direct supervision to trainee echocardiographers. In addition, supporting the service lead to ensure compliance with departmental accreditation quality assurance programme is fundamental by engaging in activities to comply with the echo quality framework.

Job responsibilities

An experienced and highly motivated echocardiographer with a passion for echocardiography training would be the ideal candidate for this role.

Our department is expanding and there are increasing needs to extend our training capability in the department and the wider trust. In order to ensure adequate training to our physiologists (qualified and in-training), ETP candidates, cardiology registrars & FUSIC trainees we are looking to appoint an experienced echocardiographer who can support the echo training lead in the delivery of a robust training and QA programme.

The post-holder will be expected to partake in all aspects of transthoracic echocardiography and be able to independently scan and write comprehensive reports according to the British Society of Echocardiography minimum dataset and accompanying pathology guidelines.

Mentoring candidates undertaking society exams will be a fundamental part of this role as well as acting as a role model for high standard of echocardiography practice.

Each trainee echocardiographer is assigned a supervisor who is responsible for ensuring that training is progressed and there is adequate support for that trainee including signing off logbooks, DOPS, training lists are booked appropriately.

All echo slots at WHH are a minimum of 50 minutes, with a minimum of 60 minute slots assigned for unaccredited/newly accredited echocardiographers. There is a monthly echo teaching session that lasts 1 hour plus weekly drop in sessions to discuss interesting/discordant scans.
